For 45 years I used to be treated for some sort of mental disorder. The list includes depression, temperament disorder, and psychosis. At age 44 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I received all the regular treatments which included mood stabilizers, antidepressants, therapy and hospitalization.
There were times once I created irrational decisions. There were conjointly times when I might not get a position on my emotions or my thoughts. But, it had been when my daughters were sent away to live with their father as a result of of the bipolar disorder that I felt my world ended. At this point I made a decision I had 2 selections: I'd live or I'd die. If I lived, I told myself, "It can be on my own terms".
For all the incorrect reasons I ordered some motivational tapes from a man on TV that got me believing I may reinvent myself and got me wanting to strive some new things - like various treatments. I felt like I had nothing to lose. My children were not with me. I was taking several medications and was told I would spend the rest of my life in and out of mental institutions. My doctors told me there was no cure for bipolar disorder.
Once I told my doctor I needed to strive some alternative treatments for bipolar disorder, he told me I needed to stay to the program they had prescribed on behalf of me or they might shut my case. He said they could now not be responsible for me if I didn't do what they thought best. He said I might most likely get sicker and eventually return back worse off as I had done before. I considered that for about 2 seconds and then I said, "I am willing to require that likelihood". I walked out of the clinic that day and never looked back.
Was I scared? Yes, I used to be scared. But this time I had a plan. I wasn't leaving because I used to be angry with my doctor or as a result of I was uninterested with the aspect effects from the medication. This time I extremely wanted to get better. I wished to feel smart and be happy. I figured the worst thing that would happen is I would die. However, I used to be more afraid that I'd continue to live a life that I hated, taking medications with aspect effects that I failed to like, and out and in of mental institutions because of bipolar disorder.
I started being attentive to a lot of tapes and reading different books with positive and uplifting messages like those on the audiotapes I had ordered. I started researching how what we eat affects our mind, body and general well-being. I modified how and what I ate and created varied different lifestyle changes and checked for toxins in my environment (as well as toxic individuals).
A terribly long story created short is: I noticed that if I didn't eat sugar, white bread and dairy merchandise, I felt great. I suppose clear. I don't feel foggy. I realized if I drank only pure water and ate mostly fruits and vegetables, I was energetic and felt happy. I found that if I meditated and stopped making an attempt to please everyone - and learned to like myself and forgive myself also others I used to be okay. No, my life is not all roses. Except for the foremost part I really expertise and feel the joy and peace that I never thought I might ever feel.
I've got recently met others who traveled the same road I was on - the mental illness road that eventually ended when a path to mental health and feeling good was found. Many of them tell a similar story regarding how they regained their sanity with diet and lifestyle changes.
So, I marvel, what was all of the hospitalizations and countless medications concerning? I wonder how come no one told us it might be as simple as watching what we tend to place in and on our body temple and focusing on honoring, valuing and loving ourselves and others. Sure, everyone is completely different and what helps one person could not help everybody. After all, just the alternative will be true.
But, it leads me to believe that there are so many stones unturned when it comes to a way to treat and manage bipolar disorder and alternative mental illnesses. Perhaps I have just been in remission for the past 12 years. Or, what if when all those years of psychiatric treatment, it absolutely was as easy as, "No more milk and cookies for you"?
