- Here We See Leadership Filled With Life, Love and Power
My former Professor of New Testament at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland, James S. Stewart, spoke abundant about being 'in Christ'. It had been a phrase he would use frequently in his sermons, talks and lectures.
It is only over these recent weeks that I have been seriously reconsidering the significance of this powerful concept. It's a phrase used frequently by the apostle Paul when he is writing his letter to varied church and individuals. 'In Christ' and its shut equivalent 'within the Lord' flow from Paul's quill. One scholar has recounted that Paul uses these words some 100 and sixty four times. It's as if he just might not stop using these words. They were thus relevant and meaningful to the current man of God, and in fact, they are profound.
That's where we have a tendency to as disciples of Jesus Christ should live: 'in Christ'! that's some address to own!
It wasn't that Paul lacked words to use because his writing is of a high literary standard. This phrase meant so abundant to him. For years, he had been out of Christ and even had opposed Christ and people who followed Christ, and then Jesus Christ found him and confronted him and rescued him and saved him.
Saul of Tarsus, who later became Paul, was 'born once more' and became such a strong leader and preacher and teacher and writer. He did a lot of travelling too founding churches everywhere the Middle East, and his motivation and inspiration as a frontrunner sprung from where he lived: 'in Christ'. That's no empty sentiment. For those of us who are disciples of Jesus and who follow Christ is a most meaningful phrase.
Paul writes that we are sanctified in Christ Jesus. Meaning that we have a tendency to are set apart, or created holy, or different. As a result of we have a tendency to have been 'born once more' and as a result of becoming a 'new creation', we are completely different which will have its own set of issues and problems. Some folks do not like those who are completely different, and perhaps that is one in all the reasons why there is so much persecution of believers in Jesus around the world today.
Believers in Christ Jesus are justified that means they're delivered from the penalty of sin, and they are also sanctified that involves being delivered from the facility and pollution of sin.
This can be not dry theology. This is often life and inspiration for each Christian leader.
At a time when strong ethical spiritual leadership is thus greatly required, let this phrase inspire and encourage you wherever you are. Study the letters of Paul and find these phrases for yourself and perceive their profound meaning and significance, and could they enable you to remain faithful to Jesus in these perilous times.
There's a dynamic when a man realises that he's in Christ. He's in God, the Son. This is no dry doctrinal belief. This can be life and love and power and anointing for service.
