The title sounds redundant, but that's the point. The concept of a family is not just about related people living together. A family is an intertwined entity that is the supporting structure for each member in it and the unit as a whole. This family structure is so important and so vital to itself and society that it will never meet its demise and will never be tedious.
And at the end of the day, these are quite possibly the most important words you're ever going to hear.
The Benefits of Family
Sometimes your family is a burden. The burden becomes especially heinous when you are wakened at 3 am to warm up a bottle or sweep the monsters from under the bed. You are so whacked out by unnaturally awakened while you perform your tasks, it's a miracle you haven't conked your head on a wall and passed out.
This is where family life is a mixed blessing at best. Then there are the times when you are scared and uncertain, when the decisions of life are a struggle for you to make. It is at these times when your family becomes steadfast as a rock. These are the times when you know beyond all else that your family was put together to help steady you and keep you strong.
Success Comes in Many Forms
The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word success is probably success in the professional arena. In today's lousy economy, it is no wonder that making a living is on everyone's mind. Families around the world are struggling to make ends meet. With this type of environment, money becomes more important than in economic good times.
There is no way to measure success in dollars and cents or whatever the currency of the land may be. Bishop E. Bernard Jordan teaches that man's success can also be measured by the strength of his family. Sometimes it seems this family is a target for demolition by outside forces.
Family Instability Serves No One
Families, like nations, need to hang together, work together and make compromises for the good of the whole. This is tough because the outside world is hurling challenges at your family to dissolve that unity.
On the flip side, fractures in the family unit allow outside pressures to find the weak links and began to erode it. These forces will push those chinks until the whole unit collapses. It has been shown that broken families are at risk for poverty, high school dropouts, teen pregnancies, gang membership and all sorts of social ills.
Stop and just for a minute put your mind to considering the value of your family and how much you love and appreciate them for being a part of your life. Then put some energy into discovering ways to deter bad outside influences and keep your family group together no matter the sacrifices that must be made by all members. When you are gone, it's not what you take with you that matters, it's what you leave behind.
