What Is Meant by Tempo in your Golf Swing

When we talk of tempo with the golf swing, we're talking about the glue which holds the swing together. In simple language, it is your pace with the swing, and will be dictated not with the arms or legs but by the hub of the body. It will vary for everyone, as everyone is going to pivot their body with different speeds, as a result their golf swing tempo will vary. And naturally when you age, this speed that you can pivot your body will certainly diminish.

But good golf swing tempo is vital because without it the various locations of your body which contribute to your swing won't interconnect. If the body, arms and legs are out of sync the body is going to fight against itself, creating not just reduced distance but also troubles with accuracy. The golf swing will not have efficiency and can seem jerky and uncoordinated. So for most people the easy answer to the dilemma will probably be to slow down so that every area of the body can function jointly, but there will likely be more to it than simply slowing down.

As stated previously, the hub of the body will be where the remainder of your swing starts from, and therefore the core sets swing rhythm. And since the core of the body has the capability of rotating only so fast, (that will depend on the golfer swinging the club), your arms must stay coordinated. But since arms have the capabilty to move at a faster pace as opposed to the body, when we endeavor to generate extra golf club speed and consequently more yardage, we usually attempt to do it through swinging our arms with greater speed. This will get things out of sync, and so the result becomes regularly a poor shot.

So let the body get you into correct position when you reach ball contact, and allow the arms to take the lead from the body center. Next, what will be the suitable arm rhythm, or how fast should the ideal backswing be? It is commonly agreed that the backswing ought to last three times as long to get at the uppermost of the backswing as it does to return from the top of the backswing to the ball at contact. So if you were counting to four beginning at the point that you start the club back, at the top of the backswing you'd reach three, then at golf ball contact you would be at four. You definitely wouldn't choose to work on this while on the golf course, however it will be a good drill to perform on the driving range, or just as you're taking several swings with the club.

Another little training drill that may help would be to grasp a golf club using both hands, club shaft parallel to the ground. Turn the body to the backswing location and count to three, then bring the body back to the ball contact point, reaching it on the four-count. By doing this you will feel the proper tempo, never too fast or too slow, that is comfortable for you. Finally all you have to do is bring that proper rhythm to the course and have it integrated into your swing when you are concentrating on other golf course management issues.
Author Resource:- For consistent ball striking, it is imperative to establish a consistent Golf Swing Plane, and this goes hand-in-hand with trying to Correct a Golf Slice. Simple swing mechanics are discussed in length on our site. Sean O'Kelly is an avid golf and writer living in London.
