The manner that we dress clearly defines our personality or even identity and so as our nationwide costume which relates to a specific historical period, speaks of the country and cultural heritage where all of us belong. Although many of national costumes of various countries have been modernized and tailor-made for the modern men and women of today, the essence these costumes represent still stay.

The 20th century has brought drastic modifications in the way people dress. Globalization offers indeed made us talk the same language, eat the same food and share the same passion for fashion as observed in the way most of us dress these days. The clothes of today have a lot of variations in style, colors and patterns compared to the ones they have some decades ago. Thus this only shows that preferences, the same as the human species, have evolved.

that covers women from head to Shins.

Today, it has become more fashionable and elegant-looking, adorned with beads, laces and embroideries because of fashion designers ideas. The thawbs, on the other hand, is usually a white full-length loose garment, made of cotton and sometimes made of woll during the winter paired with the sirwal, which is a loose ankle-length undergarment. Just like the modernized abaya, the thawbs too have become fashionable-looking as the cuffs happen to be adorned with silver or even diamond and other precious gemstones.

The Filipiniana of the Philippines called Barong Tagalog for males on the other hand, popularized by the late President Ramon Magsaysay is made of lightweight, slightly below the waist and flimsy Pina, jusi or banana fabric put on over an undershirt. Today, there has been so many variations as to color, style and decorative details such as lace inserts and appliqués as an solution to the calls of fashion. The womens Filipiniana has so many variations such as barot saya, Karen Clara, Balintawak and nowadays, more modern and more elaborate versions have been designed to support the changing fashion styles of women.

National costumes now have been worn rarely at parties as they happen to be replaced by more modern, much more comfortable and more fashionable gowns nowadays. National costumes, whether we like it or not, have been put on only in beauty pageants by women representing each country of origin.
