People often like to eat chocolate in candies or baked goods. However, asides from chocolate milk, most people rarely consume any other chocolate beverage. Here are some of the favorite chocolate drinks that can be prepared at home and even served at a party:

Irish Chocolate – if there is Irish coffee, then there is the chocolate equivalent. This is a smooth and tall chocolate drink mixed from a blend of chocolate ice cream, vodka, Irish cream, and chocolate liqueur. Serve in a tall glass as soon as it is whipped up. No use letting it stand and getting warm!

Spicy Chocolate Martini – for those who like chocolate and spice, add vodka, chocolate liqueur, coffee liqueur (Kahlua) and cinnamon schnapps. Pour all ingredients in a shaker with ice and just shake. Strain and pour in martini glasses. If cinnamon is not available, substitute with chili.

Sweet Chocolate Martini – some may like it hot and spicy, but for those who do not, the sweet chocolate martini is a good drink choice. Mix together chocolate liqueur, creme de cacao, chocolate vodka (if none is available, then plain vodka is fine), cream, and lots of ice in a shaker. Shake until well mixed and the shaker is frosted. Strain and pour into martini glasses that have been rim dipped in chocolate syrup.

Bananarama – this is a drink for those who like bananas and chocolate together. Mix some banana liqueur, crème de cacao liqueur, chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, vanilla extract, a cup of milk and one large banana. Whip the lot up in a mixer with lots of ice. Serve in glasses and top with shaved chocolate and whipped cream.

Chocolate Cherry Delight – what’s more party than chocolate and cherries? Mix in a cocktail shaker amaretto liqueur, grenadine syrup, chocolate syrup and heavy cream. Pour into shot glasses.

Chocolate drinks for a party does not necessarily mean that they have to be alcoholic. Think of expectant mothers who cannot consume alcohol or underage children who are not suppose to drink. For family occasions, there are other drinks that will be suitable for people of all ages.

Hot Chocolate – This classic drink is a sure hit for everyone. But instead of just using sugar, add something different to give the taste a little bit of twist. Try adding maple syrup or honey. Do the usual, mix and heat but add the marshmallow in while still simmering and wait till they are fully melted. Ladle into mugs and top up with more marshmallows if the drinker wants some. For those not content without the alcohol, just add a shot of chocolate or regular vodka into the drink.

You can also make non alcoholic versions of the drinks listed above. Just use a non alcoholic substitute or remove the alcohol from the ingredients altogether. As anyone can see, chocolates make for great drinks in or out of a party as well as for family and home enjoyment. Mix some up and have some fun with friends and enjoy the warmth or coolness of chocolate.
