WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA — Physical therapy practices were the targeted audience when Prognition Corp. created Mavenlive physical therapy assessment software in 2009.

But as the software company approaches its two year anniversary, its rehab software has been recognized by personal trainers and other fitness professionals for the variety of uses in fitness applications.

Prognition Corp. has received numerous inquiries from fitness experts who are interested in trying the software.

We are happy to see other professions in addition to the physical therapy field identifying ways in which Mavenlive can be useful to them, said Dr. Jay Winburn, president of Prognition Corp. Mavenlive is a good fit for a variety of clients including personal trainers because it allows fitness professionals to record their client information easily.

Personal trainers routinely track clients’ progress as part of the training process. That task is easy with Mavenlive exercise software, Winburn said. Mavenlive allows users to store and deliver exercise protocols and distribute informational documents and letters. For example, a trainer can use Mavenlive to generate monthly training schedules complete with exercises, as well as descriptions and demonstrations of those exercises for the client.

One of our goals with Mavenlive is to simplify processes for professionals and make their work easier, said Mike Gauthier, vice president of product development for Prognition Corp. Mavenlive does that for physiotherapy practices, so it stands to reason that it can do the same for fitness experts and personal trainers.

The interest from this group of professionals came from personal trainers finding Mavenlive online.

Part of our marketing is directed toward exercises and delivery of exercise to patients, Gauthier said. “Through our online marketing efforts, personal trainers found us and thought they would give the software a try.

As it turns out, the technology is an ideal fit. Mavenlive s Internet based software helps trainers easily create new workout sheets for clients. Some of the larger groups Gauthier has dealt with have identified Mavenlive as an ideal way distribute standardized programs and exercises, due to the sharing component that was developed initially for physical therapists.

They can create exercises and share them among their group, he said. It s an easy way for users to not have to worry about whether they are prescribing the correct set of exercises or following the correct protocol.

Personal trainers using Mavenlive have provided positive thus far, Winburn said. It appears that most fitness professionals have relied heavily on handouts and other static formats in the past. Client information largely was kept on paper in file cabinets.

Judging by the inquiries we ve received, it appears that the online client management component is something they were not accustomed to, but they certainly like it, Gauthier said.

Mavenlive allows for better organization of client information and gives access to exercises that trainers can recall at any time.

The software benefits clients in the form of increased continuity in exercises and better organization of information. It also can eliminate paperwork, should the client prefer to be entirely electronic. For example, handouts are created using the software and are in a PDF format. Trainers can send these via email, and the attachments are viewable on cell phones and other devices.

This is a new market that we weren’t initially focusing on, but now that we have been approached, we are working to determine what’s even more valuable to these users,” Gauthier said. “It s great to see that the software has so many different uses.
