Weddings are still a big market and strangely it’s getting bigger all the time and with shows like ‘Don’t tell the bride’ on BBC Three it’s easy to see how extravagant weddings are becoming. Most weddings are fairly traditional and it’s now becoming more and more popular to base your wedding on a theme. In a lot of cases these themes can be quite extreme or quite elegant, examples of extreme are a wedding based on the films Shrek, Star Wars, Flintstones or a Fantasia and Medieval wedding. I think you will agree those are quite extreme themes to have especially Star Wars and Shrek, imagine the costumes and make up that would be required for such an event.

We do have to keep in perspective that this is an important day and a big commitment to make so you should spend your day how you want it and make it memorable. Regardless of what people think you your partner and your needs and budget are the most important factors in these decisions. There are simpler themes you could consider like a chocolate, Christmas or even a vintage theme. There are so many ideas out there its brilliant for example a chocolate themed wedding would be awesome imagine a chocolate fountain or alcoholic chocolate flavoured shots at the bar.

Let’s look a little further into the concept of a vintage wedding. May sound difficult to setup or organise because you do have to take the time to get everything together for such an event and you may well be thinking that items will be hard to source like vintage bridal accessories or vintage bridal jewellery. As always though this is not the case because popular fashions comeback and become quite a large thing. Now online and in specialist stores it is becoming a lot easier to source vintage wedding accessories / jewellery or even other items like shoes, tiaras and shrugs to help you get the full outfit.
A vintage wedding outfit for a bride will consist of a number of accessories like jewellery, tiaras, headpieces and shoes.

There are even retailers that offer designer ranges of vintage wedding accessories which for your information some of the designer names include Rachel Simpson, Stephanie Browne and many more. Personally I would start by looking online at the different retailers and the different styles available at the moment, be realistic and don’t expect them to hold anything and everything.

Bear in mind that as above budget is an important factor whether you are rich beyond belief or not, as without keeping this mind a themed wedding can get out of control. For example sourcing certain designer items may well be easy but will be difficult to find them at a bargain as demand is still fairly low as the vintage wedding idea is coming through but slowly. Good luck in finding your pieces and remember when looking for your piece look to the past for inspiration. Personally I think the 1950s are a great place to start for ideas.
