Popular Source of Revenue

Domain parking is a popular source of revenue for those domain names not in circulation for one reason or another. When you consider the income likely to be achieved from visitors being directed to domain parking pages, the sky can be the limit. From as few as a couple of clicks a month to many thousands for a popular domain name, you can see why there has been such an industry built up around developing a domain portfolio. Directing targeted traffic towards those nameservers, however, increases the likelihood of revenue being earned. This is one of the reasons why dedicated Domainers prefer to set up their nameservers to automatically point towards their domain parking pages. This is not that difficult to do if you know how to go about it.

Configure your Domain Name

Once your domain name has been registered you need to configure your domain name in your name server. Next, you need to point your hosting provider to your dedicated web server. This can be done by adding a new Virtual Host per each registered domain name to each of your existing Virtual Hosts. You now need to give your newest Virtual Host a unique name – one that will not clash with your other Virtual Hosts. This can be where it all gets horribly complicated: talking about DNS server and NX domain redirect. Basically, you need to configure your name server [in other language, the DNS server] back to the IP address of your web server. An NX domain redirect simply means that your name server is returning a non existent domain name response.

Web Server and IP Address

If your DNS server has been configured to deal with requests through Apache then it is reasonably straightforward – apart from user confusion, that is! Basically, you have two name servers, called: ns1.mydomain.com and ns1.mydomain.com, and a domain name that has been registered. Your registered domain name needs to point to ns1.mydomain.com and ns1.mydomain.com, where ‘my domain’ corresponds with the name you have registered and your name servers. Using the Apache system, each computer has an IP address and your web server listens to your IP address as a result of the name servers above. Meanwhile, Apache need to have each Virtual Host defined by specific unique names.

Domain Parking Pages

I am sure you are now well and totally confused! In a way, that is the intention because if you take a look around CPanel you should find domain parking pages being offered without needing to know how to get around the intricacies of CPanel. This is what you are being offered by the domain parking pages such as you see with some of the domain parking services now available online. Comparatively few people have either the time or the inclination to get their heads around how to configure your name servers to correspond with your web servers etc, so domain parking services fulfil the need and provide a one stop service for choosing and registering your domain name, and provide everything necessary on their domain parking pages.
